Well done to all the people who helped organise the tournament, the umpires, court officials and those who worked in the kitchen during the week. Particular thanks go to our sponsors and to Barbara Stafford and Mary Rose Lyons for all their hard work in organising and running the tournament. Here’s hoping that next year will be as successful.

May 6th, 2008.

It was another busy weekend at Naas LTC who hosted the Leinster Provincial Towns Competition.  Well done to all the Naas players who competed so well over the weekend.  Naas girls were represented in all the girls singles finals, and Adam O'Connell kept the flag flying for the boys.

It was a particularly busy weekend for Cora Moloney at Under 10, she was runner up in the final of the Girls Under 10 at Malahide, and then rushed back to Naas to play her semi-final which she duly won, and then played Ailbhe O'Sullivan in an all Naas Final which Cora won 6/2, 6/2

The under 12 girls swept the boards in the round robin qualfying stages, seven naas girls got through to the quarter finals, at which stage we lost Lorna Laide, Sadhbh Hogan and Megan Campion.  The semi's saw Janeen Laabei and Anna McWilliams depart, leaving an all Naas final between Chloe O'Toole and Jodie McWilliams.  It was a very close match with Chloe taking the first set 6/2, Jodie fought back to win the second set 6/2, which set it up for a very tight finish with Jodie wining the third set 6/4 and the title.

Katie Nolan had a very competitive match in the Under 14 girls final, losing out to Jill O'Farrell from Castleknock.  The under 16 girls final was another all Naas affair between Emily Doyle and Ashling Whyte, with Ashling taking the title.

The under 18 girls was played on a round robin format, going into the final round of eleven games, Sinead Hogan was one point behind the leader Elaine Houlihan, Sinead needed to win 6/5 to capture the Under 18 girls title, which she duly did.

Adam O'Connell won the boys under 16 event with a comprehensive win

Over in Malahide the boys under 18 singles final was another all Naas affaire, between Jack Hughes and Rory Whyte, Jack won 6/3,6/3

April 2008: Success for our Juniors!

I am sure you will all join with me in congratulating Grainne O'Neill and Katie Dore on their magnificent wins at the Templeogue Junior Open on Saturday.

Grainne has put back to back wins together, Brookfield last week and Templeogue on Saturday to capture the Girls Under 16 singles titles at both events.  Grainne was seeded no 5 in Templeogue, she played the No 1 seed Becky O'Hanlon in the quarter finals and played superb tennis to win 6/2, 6/1.  Her next opponent was Maeve Crowley No 6 seed in the semi-finals and she again won in two sets 6/0, 7/6.  In the final Grainne played the No 2 seed Sinead Kennedy, and after losing the first set on a tie-break 6/7, she came back strong to win the next two sets 6/2, 6/2. Well done Grainne

Katie had a very strong week at Templeogue winning the girls Under 10 singles title.  In the round robin she only lost one game to score 19/20. She won her quarter final and semi final on a scorline of 6/2, 6/2 she then went on to win the final 6/2 7/6. Well done Katie

Congratulations also to Rory Whyte and Eimear Maher who were beaten semi-finalists in the boys under 18 singles championship and the girls under 10 singles championship, and also to Anna McWilliams who was a beaten semi-finalist in the Girls Under 12 plate.. I would also like to say well done to all the Naas children who entered and competed in Templeogue last week.  You were all a credit to Naas and to yourselves.

Over in Herbert Park, Cora Moloney was the winner in an Under 9 event organized for the children on regional squads.  Well done Cora.

Special thanks and congratulations must go to Jonathan Coulston and his team of coaches at Naas LTC who have worked tirelessly since last September to enable the children to reach their potential and to compete with the best.
